Media – Staff Intranet / Client Extranet
Analysis: After analyzing the business processes and interviewing staff we came up with the below objectives.
They needed an Intranet and a client facing Extranet.
Workflow on document management.
Fix their in-house attempt of setting up WSS 3.0. (not working correctly).
Replacement of file servers.
Custom interface Design.
Train in-house resource of how to use SharePoint Designer.
Set up Secure Socket Layer (SLL) authentication for external access.
Implement a backup solution.
Design: The infrastructure was straight forward. The intranet would replace both file servers and home drives and therefore needed to be robust enough to handle a high load of traffic. The WSS 3.0 set up consisted of one application server and one back end SQL database server. Clients were permitted external access via SSL to view relevant information. Versioning would be turned on to keep records of all document changes.
Deployment: The installation and configuration was first done in a testing environment to test the migration and for later development purposes. We believe that all companies should have two copies of their SharePoint site, one for production and another for testing and development purposes.
Training: The existing IT staff were trained on both the technologies used in SharePoint and the installation, configuration, administration and how to use SharePoint Designer. All processes and installation steps are documented.
Support and Development: We provide ongoing support and development as required.
