Education – Staff Intranet
Analysis: After analyzing the requirements specification, business processes and interviewing staff we came up with the below objectives.
To migrate an existing staff Intranet to a new SharePoint implementation where departments could manage their own content.
To create a custom Interface design for the SharePoint Intranet.
To provide document repository so all documents could be accessed from a single location and searched on.
Manage paper based forms online, so that staff can automate required business processes.
To create an area on the Intranet where helpdesk staff could manage student user accounts via an Intranet web page.
Design: The system we designed was based on SharePoint Server 2007 Enterprise with a small farm configuration- one back end database server and two front end web servers.
The SharePoint Staff Intranet site would include one site collection and a series of publishing portal sites for each departments Intranet presence, containing necessary document libraries, form libraries, notices contacts and welcome web page.
Deployment: The installation and configuration was first done in a testing environment to test the migration and for later development purposes. We believe that all companies should have two copies of their SharePoint site, one for production and another for testing and development. After the test site was deployed and tested we rolled out the site into the production environment and migrated the existing Intranet content.
Development: We developed custom master pages to incorporate a specified Interface design for the SharePoint Intranet. We developed several custom info path forms with necessary workflows to route documents and store forms in form libraries with appropriate permissions. We developed a custom web part to allow helpdesk staff the ability to create, edit and reset passwords for student accounts, without direct access to active directory.
Training: IT staff was trained on the technologies used in their SharePoint set-up -Installation, configuration and administration. Staff Intranet users and site owners where fully trained. Full documentation was provided.
Support: We provide 24/7 ongoing support and development should for any problem solving and/or customisation.
